Description

A deep charcoal-grey field carries a distributed all-over layout of octagonal medallion forms, angular botanical connectors, and stepped geometric figures in silver-grey and cool powder-blue. The motifs sit at low contrast against the dark ground, their pale outlines reading clearly only at close range. A narrow guard border in the same tonal range contains the field without interruption.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Pewit · the asked & answered
Does the low-contrast charcoal and silver-grey palette hold its tonal distinction clearly over years of use?

Hand-knotted wool holds dye at the fiber level, keeping tonal distinctions between the charcoal ground and silver-grey motif outlines stable with regular care. Vacuuming on low suction and annual professional cleaning prevent surface dulling that could further reduce the already close-toned contrast between field and motif.

What furniture and flooring combinations suit this rug's dark ground most effectively?

The charcoal ground reads well against pale concrete, polished stone, or light timber floors, where the dark rug anchors the furniture grouping without merging with the floor surface. Upholstery in grey, linen, or natural leather works well. The 9x12 and 10x14 sizes suit large living rooms where a sofa and accent chairs sit with front legs on the rug, keeping the full border visible.

Will pale lint and pet hair show on the dark charcoal ground?

Dark grounds do attract pale lint and light-colored pet hair more visibly than mid-tones. Weekly low-suction vacuuming without a beater bar keeps the surface clear. The tight hand-knotted construction resists debris embedding, so surface cleaning is generally sufficient between professional appointments.
