Description

A deep brick-red field carries a large-scale botanical scroll of oversized lobed leaves, full-bloom rosettes, and animal figures including birds and a serpentine form in warm gold, steel blue, ivory, and dusty teal. A central cypress-like motif rises through the composition. The wide ivory border holds a running botanical and rosette repeat in terracotta and sage. Medium pile reads dense and full in the close-up with rounded, open motif edges.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Kiln · the asked & answered
How does the brick-red ground hold its color depth over time compared to other saturated ground colors?

Brick-red is one of the most stable colors in traditional wool dyeing, produced from madder-based dye compounds that hold their depth through the full pile. Gradual surface wear does not lighten the ground noticeably because the color runs through each fiber rather than sitting on the surface. Annual professional cleaning maintains the ground's richness across the full field.

Does a warm red ground rug suit rooms with predominantly cool grey or concrete surfaces?

Red grounds work particularly well in rooms with concrete, grey plaster, or bare industrial surfaces because the warmth of the field provides direct contrast against the room's coolness. The rug becomes the room's primary warm element, which gives it presence without requiring the surrounding surfaces to match or complement it.

What size suits a long, narrow living room with a single sofa against one wall?

For a long narrow room with a sofa along one wall, a 9x12 placed parallel to the sofa with front legs on the rug works well. The rug's length defines the room's active zone without feeling undersized. If the room allows, a 10x14 extends the design further and lets more of the botanical field read from the seating position.
