Description

A near-black graphite ground carries three stacked medallion forms in ivory-white, their scalloped edges enclosing dense fields of small floral figures in brick-red, powder-blue, amber-gold, and sage-green. The medallion framework dominates the field, while an ivory-cream border with warm sand and blue geometric units holds the perimeter. The close-up reveals fine knotting resolving each accent color as a distinct, separate element.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Dross · the asked & answered
How does the multi-color accent palette hold its individual color distinction against the near-black ground over time?

Hand-knotted wool holds dye at the fiber level, keeping each accent color, brick-red, powder-blue, amber-gold, and sage-green, distinct from the graphite ground with regular care. Annual professional cleaning and low-suction vacuuming prevent surface dulling that could reduce the contrast between the dark field and the fine colored motifs within the medallion zones.

What room scale and furniture arrangement suits the vertical three-medallion layout?

The stacked vertical medallion structure works best in rooms where the rug's length axis aligns with the room's primary seating direction. At 9x12, a sofa facing two accent chairs with the central medallion between them keeps the vertical composition readable. The 10x14 size gives the full three-medallion stack more breathing space within the furniture arrangement.

Does a near-black ground show dust and lint accumulation more than mid-tone grounds?

Dark grounds attract pale lint and light-colored fiber more visibly than mid-tones. Weekly low-suction vacuuming without a beater bar keeps the surface clear. The tight knotting resists debris embedding, so routine surface vacuuming is generally sufficient between annual professional cleaning appointments.
