Description

A warm silver-grey field carries an all-over botanical vine in ivory-cream, warm sand, brick-red, and cornflower-blue, its open rosettes and scrolling leaf forms distributing evenly without a central medallion. Large ivory-white sunburst rosettes anchor the field at regular intervals, their scale distinguishing them from the smaller secondary forms between them. An ivory-cream border with a brick-red and cornflower-blue floral repeat closes the composition.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Callow · the asked & answered
How does the multi-color field maintain its motif clarity and color distinction across a large 10x14 surface over time?

Hand-knotted wool holds each dye color at the fiber level across the full surface, keeping the ivory-cream rosettes, brick-red accents, and cornflower-blue figures distinct from the grey ground with regular care. At larger sizes, rotating the rug every 12 months distributes foot traffic and any directional light exposure evenly, preventing uneven dulling that could reduce color distinction in specific zones.

What furniture arrangement and room type suits this large-scale all-over design best?

The large sunburst rosettes read best when the rug is not heavily obscured by furniture. A sofa and two chairs with front legs on the rug at 9x12 or 10x14 keeps the central field visible. The design suits large living rooms and drawing rooms with substantial furniture and plain or lightly textured walls, where the rug carries the room's full decorative weight at floor level.

How should an all-wool rug of this size be cared for in the first year of use?

Expect some fiber release in the first three to six months; vacuum on low suction without a beater bar two to three times weekly during this period. Avoid steam cleaning or saturating the pile with water at home. Schedule a professional cleaning within the first year, particularly if the rug is used under a dining table or in a high-foot-traffic living room arrangement.
