Description

Diagonal bands of warm camel and pale sand run across the full field, alternating with ivory-white silk passages that catch between them. Faint notes of cool ash-grey appear where the bands intersect in the mid-field. No border. The close-up reveals the hi-low construction clearly: silk rises at the pale ivory bands while wool holds the camel zones lower and denser.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Strata --check · the asked & answered
How do the alternating wool and silk bands hold their separation in pile height over regular use?

The pile height difference between wool and silk is maintained by the knotting density of each material at its respective level. Wool at the lower plane compresses slowly under foot traffic, and silk at the higher plane retains its elevation in moderate-use rooms. Annual rotation distributes wear so neither band type flattens ahead of the other.

The diagonal pattern runs corner to corner. Does the orientation affect how the rug is placed?

The diagonal runs consistently in one direction, so placement matters. Orient the rug so the bands run away from the main seating position rather than parallel to it, which keeps the full diagonal movement visible from where people sit. The 9x12 and 10x14 both work well in standard living room arrangements with front furniture legs on the field.

How should the pale ivory silk bands be cleaned without damaging the wool zones alongside them?

Vacuum the full surface on low suction without a beater bar. For spills, identify which zone is affected before responding. On the silk bands, blot immediately with a dry cloth only; do not apply water or cleaners. On the wool camel zones, blot thoroughly and allow to air dry. Professional cleaning is recommended annually for the full surface.
