Description

Nested rectangular frames in raspberry-crimson run through the upper field, their lines eroded and broken into dragged passages. The interior they enclose holds a dense wash of warm olive-khaki, dusky rose-pink, and dark walnut-brown bleeding into each other without resolution. The lower half withdraws into cool silver-grey and pale white, nearly empty against the color-loaded upper field.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Flush · the asked & answered
Will the pink and rose tones in the upper field hold their intensity over years of regular use?

Wool and silk dyes in hand-knotted rugs are fixed at the fiber level and resist fading under normal indoor conditions. Keeping the rug out of prolonged direct sunlight and rotating it annually distributes any gradual wear evenly, preserving the color contrast between the upper and lower fields.

How does the asymmetric composition work with a standard sofa-and-chairs living room layout?

Orienting the color-dense upper half toward the back of the room, with the sofa sitting across the grey lower field, creates a clear visual structure. The 9x12 suits most standard living room arrangements; the 10x14 gives the full composition more breathing room in larger spaces.

Does the mixed wool and silk pile shed more than an all-wool rug in the first months?

Shedding comes primarily from the wool content and is normal during the first few weeks of use. Silk does not shed. Regular low-suction vacuuming without a beater bar reduces wool shedding steadily, and it typically stops entirely within three to four months of normal use.
