Description

A broad pale silver-grey centre holds open and largely bare, enclosed on all four sides by a dense perimeter of steel-blue, dark olive-brown, charcoal-black, and bright cerulean-blue fragments that press inward without breaching the central field. Small crimson-red and warm tan marks punctuate the perimeter at irregular intervals, keeping the outer band from reading as a uniform border.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Moat · the asked & answered
How does the open pale centre work when a coffee table sits over it, covering most of that area?

The perimeter carries the design's full visual weight, so a coffee table over the centre leaves the complex outer band fully visible from all seating positions. The open centre functions as a visual rest beneath the furniture rather than as the design's focal point. The 10x14 gives the perimeter the most room to read clearly beyond the furniture footprint.

Does the multi-colour perimeter with pale centre work in a room with natural wood, linen, and stone materials?

Yes, and it is well-suited to this combination. The pale silver-grey centre reads with linen and plaster; the steel-blue and cerulean fragments connect with stone; the dark olive-brown connects with aged wood. The crimson marks introduce a warm accent without requiring a matching palette in the room. The rug works across restrained material combinations without asking for much in return.

Is the pale centre field prone to visible footprints or directional marks from regular movement across it?

Silk within the pale centre creates a mild directional sheen when viewed at an angle, which shifts as you move around the rug. This is a material property of the silk, not a footprint or wear mark. Regular low-suction vacuuming in one consistent direction keeps the central field looking even between professional cleans.
