Description

Deep ink-navy and dark slate-blue masses press in from the lower edge and left side, their upper boundaries dissolving through stippled transitions into a pale ice-blue and off-white ground. Horizontal dark bands run across the mid-field, narrow and eroded, breaking the open ground into distinct registers. The upper field holds the most open area, cream-white and quiet against the weight below.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Does the asymmetric composition, with the dark mass concentrated at one end, affect how the rug should be oriented under furniture?

Yes. Placing the dark navy end toward the back of the room, with the sofa sitting across the lighter upper field, gives the composition its most resolved reading. The dark mass becomes a visual anchor behind the seating group rather than a weight at the front of the room. The horizontal bands remain visible beyond the furniture footprint in both the 9x12 and 10x14.

How does the navy and ice-blue palette read in a coastal or beach-facing room?
