Description

Fine horizontal mark-rows in pale steel-blue, dusty rose-pink, and dark charcoal run across a warm off-white and sand-beige ground, each row broken and uneven rather than continuous. The marks sit low in density across the mid-field, concentrating into darker, more compressed bands toward the upper edge. The overall tonal register stays light, with colour arriving as texture rather than mass.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Markrow · the asked & answered
Does the pale off-white and beige ground show foot traffic marks or soiling more than a darker rug would?

Lighter grounds do show soiling more readily than dark ones. Regular low-suction vacuuming removes surface dust before it embeds into the pile. Rotating annually distributes wear evenly across the field, and professional cleaning once a year keeps the pale ground consistent without the need for frequent intervention.

How does this rug's quiet colour range work in a room with bold or saturated wall colours

The pale beige ground and low-saturation marks read as a counterweight to bold walls rather than competing with them. In the lifestyle image, the rug sits comfortably against warm terracotta and sage plaster without the colours clashing. The 9x12 anchors a curved or organic sofa arrangement particularly well.

Is the medium-low pile height suitable for a room with underfloor heating?

Medium-low pile allows heat to pass through more efficiently than a high pile, making it a practical choice for rooms with underfloor systems. Wool and silk both tolerate the mild, consistent warmth of radiant floor heating well. Avoid placing the rug over vents or direct heat sources, and allow the rug to acclimatise to the room before positioning furniture on it.
