Description

Dense horizontal striations in charcoal, mid-grey, and off-white cover the entire field, built from broken cross-hatch marks that accumulate into a woven visual texture. Two horizontal bands of terracotta-coral interrupt the grey field at distinct levels, running nearly edge to edge. A teal-green passage sits in the upper third, narrower than the coral bands and more dissolved at its edges.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Weft · the asked & answered
Do the terracotta and teal colour bands hold their saturation over years of use in a high-traffic living room

Wool dyes in hand-knotted construction are fixed at the fiber level and hold well under normal indoor use. The colour bands sit within the pile structure at the same depth as the surrounding grey, so they do not wear faster than the rest of the field. Rotating annually and avoiding prolonged direct sunlight preserves saturation across all colour zones.

How does the strong horizontal mark structure work with furniture placement in a standard living room?

Orienting the rug's long axis parallel to the primary sofa aligns the horizontal mark direction with the main seating line, which reinforces the composition. The 10x14 allows both coral bands to sit visible beyond the furniture footprint. The 9x12 works well with a sofa and two chairs, front legs on the rug.

Does the cross-hatch mark texture in the grey field create a directional pile that needs specific vacuuming?

The mark texture is a design element built into the knotting, not a pile direction. Vacuum in a consistent direction using low suction without a beater bar. The grey field may show slight directional sheen from the silk content when viewed at an angle, which is a material property and not a care issue.
