Description

Warm ochre-gold passages scatter across a pale ice-blue ground in broken, irregular clusters, thinning as they spread toward the edges. Vivid magenta-pink marks punctuate the field at irregular intervals, small and isolated against the cooler ground. A single vertical crimson-red drip in the upper left adds an abrupt vertical note to an otherwise lateral composition.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Fleck · the asked & answered
Do the small magenta and crimson marks hold their intensity over time, or do they fade before the larger ochre areas?

All colors in this rug are dyed at the fiber level before knotting. Smaller colored areas do not fade faster than larger ones; fading is determined by dye chemistry and UV exposure, not by surface area. Keeping the rug away from direct sunlight and rotating annually preserves color balance across the full field.

How does the pale ice-blue ground read in a room with warm wood floors and leather furniture?

The cool blue ground creates a clear separation from warm wood, which works in its favor in rooms with amber-toned floors and leather. The ochre-gold passages in the rug connect the cooler ground to the warmer room materials, preventing the rug from reading as too cool in context. The 9x12 suits a standard leather sofa arrangement well.

Is the medium-low pile suitable for placing under a dining table with chairs that move regularly?

Medium-low pile is well-suited to dining use. The shorter pile height resists chair leg compression and makes pulling chairs in and out less resistant than a deeper pile. Wool's natural resilience allows the pile to recover between uses, and rotating the rug annually ensures even wear across the dining zone.
