Description

Four distinct ground colors, brick-red, pale stone, slate teal, and soft sage, divide the field into large diamond panels, each carrying its own floral fill. Rosettes, palmettes, and feathered leaves read clearly within each zone. A narrow dark navy border with ivory geometric repeat contains the whole. Pile runs medium, dense and even across all color zones.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Fourground · the asked & answered
Does a multi-ground panel design show uneven wear across the different color zones over time?

Wear develops based on knot density and foot traffic patterns, not ground color. Because the hand-knotted construction maintains consistent knot density across all color zones, the pile compresses evenly regardless of which panel receives more use. Rotating the rug annually further distributes wear across the full surface.

How do you choose the right size for a room when the design is this visually complex?

Larger sizes, 9x12 or 10x14, allow the full diamond panel structure to read as intended. In smaller sizes, the panels may appear cropped and the diagonal composition loses its internal logic. Leave adequate floor space around the rug so all four ground colors remain visible within the seating arrangement.

Do the multiple dye colors in this rug require special care to prevent bleeding or fading?

Hand-knotted wool rugs dyed at this quality level use colorfast dyes that do not bleed under normal conditions. Blot spills immediately without rubbing; water-based spills pose the primary risk if left to sit. For deep cleaning, professional rug washing is recommended over home wet-cleaning methods.
