Description

A saturated brick-red field carries large-scale palmette and serrated leaf forms in dusty teal, amber orange, ivory, and midnight navy. The motifs read bold and close to the surface. A dark burgundy border with ivory scrollwork contains the composition without narrowing it. Pile sits medium-high, full and resilient underfoot.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Weld · the asked & answered
Does a large-motif Serapi-style design hold its drawing clarity over years of use?

Large-scale motifs drawn with open lines and broad color fills retain their visual clarity well over time. Because the design relies on form and color rather than fine detail, normal pile compression from foot traffic does not reduce legibility. The pattern reads as strongly after a decade of use as at the start.

What room and size works best for a bold, large-motif composition like this?

Rooms with higher ceilings and larger floor areas let the scale of the design read as intended. A 9x12 or 10x14 suits a substantial seating arrangement, with all main furniture legs on the rug. In smaller rooms, the motifs can read as oversized relative to the space.

How does medium-high wool pile respond to heavy foot traffic over time?

Medium-high pile compresses gradually with regular use, developing a slight patina that many buyers find desirable in traditional-style rugs. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes compression evenly. Avoid beater-bar vacuuming, which accelerates pile wear in denser constructions.
