Description

A deep brick-red field dominates the composition, framed by a wide midnight navy border carrying terracotta and wheat-gold florals. Periwinkle blue forms the inner guard and anchors the central medallion's stepped surround. Motifs read with angular precision. The wool pile sits medium-high, dense and tightly packed throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Herizfield · the asked & answered
Does the red field color hold over years of regular use?

Wool takes dye at the fiber level, so the color sits through the full pile depth. With proper rotation and low-suction vacuuming, a hand-knotted wool rug of this construction retains its field color for decades without significant fading under normal indoor conditions.

What size works best for a large living room with sectional seating?

A 10x14 allows all primary seating legs to sit on the rug, which grounds the arrangement. For open-plan rooms where the rug defines the seating zone, the larger size prevents the composition from appearing cut off by furniture edges.

Is there a break-in period before the pile settles?

Yes. Medium-high wool pile takes two to four months of regular foot traffic to fully compress and settle. During this period, some resistance underfoot is normal. The surface becomes more even in texture as the knots compress with use.
