Description

A pale silver-grey ground carries an all-over field of outlined tribal symbols: trident forms, scroll hooks, diamond medallions, and geometric fill marks in sky blue, terracotta red, oxblood, and amber yellow. The motifs read as line drawings against the ground, with color filling select forms while others remain in outline only. A dense multi-stripe border combines dark charcoal, terracotta, and sky blue geometric repeats.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Outlinefield · the asked & answered
The field contains many outlined motifs at close spacing. How does this level of detail hold up under regular foot traffic in a living room?

Fine outlined motifs in hand-knotted wool retain their definition well under foot traffic. The knot structure holds each line independently, so the outlines stay readable as the pile compresses gradually with use. Medium-low pile compresses less than higher pile constructions and recovers well with rotation.

The pale silver-grey ground runs across the entire field. How do I maintain it in a room with active use?

Regular vacuuming on low suction removes dry debris before it works into the pile. The key protection for a light ground is immediate response to spills: blot with a clean dry cloth without rubbing, and the wool fiber resists absorption long enough to lift most liquids cleanly. Annual professional cleaning keeps the ground reading at its original tone.

The design mixes outlined and filled motifs in the same field. Does that affect how the rug reads at different viewing distances?

At close range, the outlined motifs and their selective color fills read as distinct marks. At room distance, the field consolidates into an overall tonal texture with color accents appearing at intervals. Both readings work; the rug functions as a detailed surface up close and as a patterned ground from across a room.
