Description

A deep teal-blue ground carries oversized arabesque vase forms and branching botanical motifs in warm straw-gold, dusty salmon, oxblood, and pale powder blue. The forms are large and closely placed, with the teal ground appearing between them as narrow passages. A dusty blue-grey border filled with a scrolling floral repeat frames the full composition.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Frond · the asked & answered
The design uses bilateral symmetry across a large field. Does the motif alignment stay accurate in hand-knotted production at this scale?

Hand-knotting introduces minor natural variation in large symmetrical designs, which is characteristic of the process rather than a production error. The bilateral structure reads clearly across the full field; small knot-level variations in line edges are expected and consistent with hand-knotted rugs made at this scale.

The teal ground is deep and saturated. What room and furniture combinations work best alongside it?

The teal ground reads most clearly against warm neutrals: raw plaster, undyed linen, pale stone, and natural wood. The straw-gold and salmon tones in the field connect naturally to warm wood furniture. Keeping walls pale and furnishings neutral allows the full color range of the field to read without competition.

The oversized motifs are closely placed. Does the pile hold the definition of the large forms clearly over years of use?

Large motif areas in hand-knotted wool wear evenly across the full form. The color boundaries between teal ground and the straw-gold and salmon forms stay defined as the pile compresses with use. Regular rotation distributes any directional wear across the surface rather than concentrating it along the motif edges.
