Description

A deep warm-brown ground carries large upright vase and leaf forms in terracotta-red, straw-gold, and steel-blue, distributed vertically across the field without central symmetry. Small sky-blue flower heads scatter between the larger forms, and dark near-black scroll stems connect the elements throughout. The border runs in a warm straw-gold with a close-set floral vine in matching tones.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Thicket · the asked & answered
The warm-brown ground is dominant across the full field. How does this colour hold against other materials in a room?

Warm brown wool grounds sit naturally alongside leather, aged timber, brick, and raw concrete without competing with any of them. The ground colour is stable under indoor conditions and does not shift noticeably over years of regular use. The terracotta-red and sky-blue motifs retain their contrast against the brown ground, keeping the palette relationship intact over time.

The large vase and leaf forms are not symmetrically arranged. Does this affect how the rug is oriented in a room?

The non-symmetrical field gives the rug flexibility in orientation. Unlike a medallion design, there is no single correct axis. The vertical distribution of the large forms means the rug reads well from any seating position. For the 9x12, front legs of the sofa on the field keeps the full composition visible. The 10x14 allows a complete seating group to sit within the field.

How does the medium-pile wool surface hold up in a room with both a sofa and chairs on the rug

Medium-pile wool distributes weight well under multiple furniture pieces. The pile compresses gradually and evenly beneath legs and feet, settling into a slightly denser surface over years of use without losing pattern definition. Using furniture pads under heavy legs spreads the load further. Annual rotation keeps the compression even across the full field.
