Description

A soft silver-grey ground carries the same panel field structure in a restrained palette: cypress trees, cross-forms, animal figures, and geometric fills rendered in cornflower blue, warm sand, dark brown, and pale ivory. The blue appears selectively, anchoring certain panels without saturating the field. A narrow multi-stripe border keeps the edge minimal.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Pale · the asked & answered
The pale silver-grey ground will see foot traffic. How well does light-toned wool hold its color under regular use?

Wool fiber resists surface soiling better than most synthetic alternatives. The natural lanolin in wool repels liquid briefly, giving time to blot spills before they set. Regular low-suction vacuuming removes dry debris effectively. The ground color develops a gentle patina with use rather than degrading visibly.

The panel field runs horizontally across the rug. Does orientation matter for placement in a room?

The horizontal register structure reads best when oriented along the room's longer axis or parallel to the main furniture line. In a living room, placing the rug so the panels run left to right across the seating group lets the full register rhythm read clearly. Standard sizes from 8x10 to 10x14 all suit this layout.

The close-up shows very fine detail in the motifs. Does this level of detail require a higher knot count, and does that affect durability?

Fine geometric detail in hand-knotted wool does require a higher knot density, which actually improves durability. More knots per square inch means more structural integrity across the pile surface. The rug holds its motif definition well under regular use and does not require special handling beyond standard wool care.
