Description

A pale silver-beige ground carries a field divided into rectangular panels, each one holding a different tribal motif: upright cypress trees, cross-hatched columns, geometric animal figures, and abstract tribal symbols in navy-blue, terracotta-red, warm brown, and straw-gold. No two panels share the same content. The outer border runs in near-black with a tight geometric repeat, framing the open, pale field firmly.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Each panel carries a different pattern. Does the overall composition read as coherent from a distance in a room?

From standing height, the pale silver-beige ground unifies the full field and the panels read as a single textured surface rather than separate competing elements. The tonal similarity between navy, brown, and red keeps the palette cohesive even where the motif vocabulary changes. The near-black border pulls the full composition together at the edge.

The pale ground runs through most of the field. How does it hold up under regular foot traffic?

Low-pile hand-knotted wool on a pale ground handles foot traffic well structurally. The wool knots stay intact under regular use. The pale colour will show dry dust and debris more readily than a darker ground, so regular vacuuming on low suction is more important here than with darker rugs. For any spill, blot immediately with a dry cloth.
