Description

A deep midnight blue ground carries a large central tree-form composition: branching ivory and amber-gold limbs spread outward from a mirrored arch, surrounded by crimson flowering plants and powder blue foliage. A wide oxblood red border runs the full perimeter, filled with a dense scroll of blue and ivory palmettes. The close-up shows a fine, dense pile with strong color saturation throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Treefield · the asked & answered
The design has a strong central axis. How does this affect furniture placement on the rug?

A centrally organized composition works best when the furniture arrangement also centers on the rug. Place a coffee table or seating group along the vertical axis so the tree form reads as an intentional anchor beneath the arrangement. A 9x12 or 10x14 both accommodate this well in a living or drawing room.

The midnight blue and oxblood are both deep, saturated tones. What wall and furniture colors work alongside them?

Undyed or lightly pigmented surfaces read cleanly with this palette. Natural linen, raw plaster, pale stone, and warm wood all allow the rug's color to hold without competing. Avoid strong wall colors in the same tonal range; the rug needs a quieter surround to carry its depth fully.

Will the deep indigo and crimson tones hold over years of use?

Wool absorbs dye deeply into the fiber rather than coating the surface, so color in hand-knotted wool holds well under regular indoor use. Gradual tonal softening can occur with prolonged direct sun exposure. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes any such change evenly across the surface.
