Description

A mid-tone graphite-grey ground carries a dense allover field of large floral and leaf forms in terracotta-red, slate-blue, sage-green, and warm straw-gold, connected by fine vine stems. The border shifts to a deeper cobalt-blue ground carrying the same motif vocabulary in a denser, more compressed arrangement. Near-black outlines define every element sharply against both ground colours.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Graphitevine · the asked & answered
The field and border use two different ground colours. Does this tonal contrast hold consistently across all sizes?

The contrast between the graphite-grey field and the cobalt-blue border is consistent by design and appears across all sizes. Within each zone, the wool shows natural hand-dyed tonal variation, which is a characteristic of the construction. The two grounds remain visually distinct from one another regardless of size or viewing distance.

With this much colour across a dense pattern, how does the rug sit in a room with existing furniture?

The graphite-grey ground acts as a neutral anchor, keeping the saturated reds and blues from reading as overly dominant. The rug suits rooms with dark, substantial furniture rather than pale or minimal interiors. For the 9x12, a sofa and two chairs with front legs on the field keeps the composition contained. The 10x14 allows a fuller arrangement within the field.

How does the medium-pile wool construction perform in a room with regular daily use?

Medium-pile hand-knotted wool handles daily living room or dining room traffic well. The pile compresses gradually and evenly over time, maintaining pattern definition throughout. This settling is normal for wool construction and adds to the rug's character over years of use. Rotating annually distributes wear evenly and prevents any single zone from compressing ahead of the rest.
