Description

Burnt sienna red fills the field with large open rosette medallions, scrolling vines, and cobalt blue palmette accents in warm khaki and ivory. The motifs sit generously spaced, giving the red ground room to breathe between them. A wide parchment-ivory border carries bold cartouche forms separated by flowing foliage, edged in a narrow brick-red guard stripe.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Crown · the asked & answered
The field motifs are widely spaced. Does that affect how the wool pile wears compared to a denser pattern?

Wear distribution depends on foot traffic patterns rather than motif density. Wool pile performs consistently across the full surface in hand-knotted construction. Rotating the rug every 12 months prevents uneven compression in high-traffic areas regardless of pattern spacing.

What room size and furniture arrangement suits this rug best?

The wide border and open field work well in rooms where the full rug can be seen without obstruction. A 10x14 suits a dining room or a large living room with a full seating group on the surface. In a 9x12, the border reads cleanly with front furniture legs on the field and back legs off.

Does the ivory border require more maintenance than the red field?

Parchment and ivory tones do show dry dust and tracked-in debris more readily than darker grounds. Weekly vacuuming on low suction keeps the border clean. For spills, blot immediately with a clean dry cloth; do not rub, as wool fiber will release liquid before it sets if treated promptly.
