Description

A warm ivory-cream ground carries an allover field of large floral medallions in cerulean-blue, terracotta-red, warm brown, and straw-gold, connected by a dense flowering vine. The border runs on the same ivory ground with a close-set floral and leaf scroll in matching tones. No dark border frames the field; instead the ivory continues through both zones, keeping the surface open and pale throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Ivoryvine · the asked & answered
The ivory ground runs through both the field and border without a contrasting frame. Does this affect how the rug's edges read in a room?

The continuous ivory ground gives the rug a softer, more open edge than designs with a dark contrasting border. The motifs in the border zone provide enough visual definition to mark the rug's boundary clearly. On pale stone or light wood floors, the edge reads gently; on darker floors, the contrast makes the border more distinct.

The cerulean-blue medallions are a strong colour against the pale ground. Do they fade or shift over time?

Cerulean-blue wool dye is stable under normal indoor conditions and maintains its saturation over years of use. The contrast between the blue medallions and the ivory ground holds well without special treatment. As with all deep wool colours, prolonged direct sunlight is the main risk. Rotating annually and avoiding sustained sun exposure preserves the blue across the full field.

The ivory ground will show spills more readily than a darker rug. What is the best way to handle accidents?

Blot any spill immediately with a clean dry cloth, pressing down rather than rubbing. Do not apply water or liquid cleaners directly to the wool pile. For most household spills, prompt blotting removes the majority of the liquid before it sets. Professional cleaning is recommended annually, and promptly after any significant spill that blotting alone does not resolve.
