Description

Burnt amber grounds a large-scale vine-and-floral field where deep crimson star florals and pale steel-blue botanical sprays distribute across the warm surface with genuine visual weight. An ivory guard stripe separates the field from a wide mid-blue border carrying its own dense floral scroll repeat in crimson and ivory. The close-up pile shows motifs with strong, clear definition against the amber ground, the crimson holding full saturation without bleeding into the surrounding field.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Amberfield · the asked & answered
How does a burnt amber ground with crimson motifs work in a room that already has warm-toned wood flooring?

Warm-on-warm pairings work well when the rug sits in a clearly different tonal register from the floor. The amber field reads distinctly from honey or walnut wood tones, and the mid-blue border provides a visual separation that prevents the rug from merging with the surrounding floor surface. The blue introduces enough contrast to define the rug's boundary clearly.

What size suits a combined living and dining space where the rug needs to anchor the seating area only?

A 9x12 works for a standard living arrangement within an open-plan space, keeping the rug clearly within the seating zone and leaving the dining area defined by floor alone. A 10x14 suits larger seating groups or rooms where the boundary between living and dining needs more visual definition from the rug's edge.

Does the deep crimson wool pile hold its saturation over time or fade with regular use?

Crimson tones in hand-knotted wool are generally stable with proper care. Prolonged direct sunlight is the primary cause of fading in saturated red tones. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes any light exposure evenly. Vacuuming on low suction weekly and professional cleaning annually maintain the depth of color across the surface.
