Description

Deep navy grounds a Mamluk-style geometric medallion composition where ivory, warm tobacco, and powder blue organize an exceptionally dense field of interlocking star forms, octagonal panels, and micro-floral fill. Every zone of the surface carries its own secondary pattern, making the rug as complex at close range as it reads from a distance. A steel-blue border band separates field from the outer navy register, which runs its own continuous small-scale repeat.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Quoin · the asked & answered
Does a deep navy ground with high pattern density suit a room that already has strong architectural features?

Navy grounds read as a contained, self-sufficient surface. In rooms with strong architectural features such as timber paneling, concrete, or exposed brick, the rug establishes its own visual zone rather than competing with the walls. Plain or neutral upholstery keeps the arrangement from becoming visually overloaded.

What size works best when centering this rug under a curved or organic-form sofa arrangement?

A 9x12 works well under most curved sectionals, allowing the sofa's front line to sit on the rug while maintaining clear floor around the perimeter. A 10x14 suits larger rooms where the full seating group, including side chairs, needs to rest within the field boundary.

How does hand-knotted wool perform in a high-traffic drawing room used daily?

Hand-knotted construction anchors each knot individually into the foundation, making the pile structurally resistant to the pull and abrasion that loosens tufted pile over time. Wool recovers well from compression under regular foot traffic. Rotating the rug every 12 months and vacuuming on low suction weekly maintains even wear across the surface.
