Description

Pale ice blue grounds a fine all-over floral and vine pattern where dark chocolate brown and warm sand motifs distribute evenly across the surface. A deeper teal-blue border carries its own dense scroll repeat, stepping the composition from the pale interior to a confident outer frame. The close-up pile shows motifs with softened edges, their forms present but worn into the ground rather than imposed upon it.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Croft · the asked & answered
How well does a pale ice-blue wool ground resist showing everyday soiling and wear?

Pale grounds require more attentive maintenance than darker fields. Vacuuming on low suction weekly keeps surface debris from settling into the pile. Blotting spills immediately without rubbing prevents the fibers from absorbing staining agents. Professional cleaning once a year keeps the ground tone consistent over time.

Does this rug work under a dark walnut or teak coffee table without the colors competing?

The pale ice-blue field and chocolate brown motifs connect naturally to dark wood tones, pulling them into the surface rather than contrasting against them. A dark wood coffee table placed on the rug reads as part of the composition rather than a separate element placed over it.

What happens to the fine-scale motifs under compression from furniture legs over time?

Wool pile compresses under sustained load but recovers well when the weight is removed or redistributed. Furniture coasters spread the load across a wider area and reduce localized pile flattening. Rotating the rug every 12 months moves compression points and keeps the surface consistent across the full field.
