Description

Faded denim blue carries a spacious all-over vine and floral field where ivory motifs spread with room between them. Dark burgundy accents and teal blue florals punctuate the ground at intervals, each element reading clearly against the open field. A wide ivory border holds a full secondary pattern of scrolling leaves and blooms with its own density and authority.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Openfield · the asked & answered
How does a wool rug with a cool blue-grey ground pair with warm wood tones in the same room

The contrast works well. The faded denim-blue field reads as a neutral against warm walnut or oak, while the burgundy accents in the pattern connect directly to the red undertones common in darker wood finishes. The ivory border bridges the two without requiring additional coordination.

What size is appropriate when the rug needs to anchor both a sofa and a lounge chair arrangement?

A 9x12 comfortably seats a standard three-seat sofa with front legs on the rug and a single chair within the field boundary. A 10x14 gives enough room for an L-shaped or full seating group where all pieces sit fully on the surface. The 8x10 works for a compact living room with a smaller sofa.

Does the open spacing of the field pattern show footprints or compression more than a denser design?

Open-field designs can reveal pile direction changes more readily than dense ones. Regular vacuuming on low suction, moving in the direction of the pile, keeps the surface even. Rotating the rug every 12 months also distributes any compression patterns from foot traffic evenly across the field.
