Description

An ivory field carries a dense all-over lattice of small diagonal diamond cells, each enclosing a distinct geometric or botanical motif: spiky rosettes, hooked animal forms, cross-arm snowflakes, and stepped diamond medallions in terracotta, sage green, steel blue, dusty rose, and near-black. The near-black border holds a bold wave-and-floral repeat in teal and ivory. Medium pile reads evenly across the surface with sharp individual cell definition.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Sampler · the asked & answered
How does hand-knotted construction support a design where each lattice cell holds a different motif?

Each motif in this design requires individual color changes at the knot level, which only hand-knotting can achieve at this resolution. The result is that every cell boundary and interior form holds its definition independently, without neighboring colors bleeding into each other as they would in tufted or printed construction.

Does the variety of motif forms across the field affect how the rug is sized or placed in a room?

Because the design distributes interest evenly across the full field rather than concentrating it at a center or border, any size reads as a complete composition. The 9x12 and 10x14 allow more of the varied repeat to be visible from a seated position. The 8x10 works in rooms where a focused, contained field is preferred

Is the ivory ground practical in a room with regular foot traffic, such as a main living room?

Ivory wool grounds are more resilient than they appear. Wool fiber resists absorbing spills when blotted immediately, and regular low-suction vacuuming keeps surface dust from settling into the pile. Annual professional cleaning maintains the ground tone across the full surface and is the most reliable way to address any gradual yellowing in high-use zones.
