Description

Powder teal-blue runs through both field and border without contrast between them, the ground tone shifting slightly deeper at the border but never breaking. Small florals, animal figures, scrolling vines, and branching stems populate the field in terracotta-red, dusty peach, warm sand, and dark brown. The border carries the same vocabulary at a finer scale. Pile reads medium-low, close and dense.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Rorqual · the asked & answered
Does the tone-on-tone teal ground make it difficult to see where the field ends and the border begins in a room?

At room scale the border is distinguishable by its slightly deeper ground tone and finer-scaled pattern. The transition is subtle rather than sharp, which gives the rug a continuous quality that reads as intentional. In larger sizes like the 9x12 or 10x14, the tonal shift is more visible because there is enough field area for the eye to register both zones separately.

How does a medium-low pile perform in a living room with regular daily use?

Medium-low pile handles regular foot traffic and furniture weight well. The shorter fiber compresses and recovers more readily than a deeper pile, so the surface stays even under consistent use. Vacuuming on low suction without a beater bar lifts the pile periodically and prevents surface fiber from matting. Rotating annually distributes wear evenly.

What room tones work best alongside this all-teal ground?

Warm cognac leather, natural walnut, and terracotta ceramics complement the cool teal ground by providing temperature contrast. The terracotta-red and dusty peach accents within the rug already carry that warmth, so surrounding materials in those tones reinforce the palette without requiring deliberate coordination. Avoid rooms dominated by other strong cool tones, which can make the teal ground recede rather than anchor the space.
