Description

Medium teal-blue fills the field, carrying an all-over scroll of open palmettes, curling paisleys, and branching vines in warm ivory, crimson-red, sage green, and dark brown. The border steps to pale parchment ivory, dense with rosettes and scrolling leafwork in the same palette. Pile reads medium, full and consistent throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Waulk · the asked & answered
Does the teal-blue field show foot marks or pile compression more visibly than a darker ground would?

Mid-toned grounds like teal-blue sit between pale and dark fields in terms of visibility. Pile compression from regular foot traffic shows less readily than on an ivory ground. Vacuuming on low suction without a beater bar lifts the pile and keeps the surface even. Rotating annually distributes traffic patterns so no single area compresses faster than the rest.

How does the contrast between the teal field and the ivory border affect furniture placement?

The strong border creates a clear visual frame, which means the rug reads best when the border is fully visible on all sides. Avoid pushing furniture to the rug's outer edge so the ivory band can sit unobstructed. The 9x12 suits a standard living room sofa grouping with front legs on the field, leaving the border clear.

Is all-wool construction suitable for a living room that also functions as a dining space?

Yes. Wool's natural resilience handles both foot traffic and chair movement well. In a dual-function room, the medium pile provides enough cushioning for regular seated use while remaining practical for dining. Felt pads under hard furniture legs reduce abrasion at contact points, and blotting spills immediately prevents soiling from setting into the pile.
