Description

Pale powder-blue fills the field, carrying large open palmettes and scrolling vines in terracotta, dusty peach, warm ivory, and deep charcoal on thin branching stems. The border steps to a deeper slate-teal ground, dense with its own scrollwork and floral forms. A narrow parchment band separates field from border. Pile reads medium, smooth and full.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Celadon · the asked & answered
How does the two-tone blue palette hold up against fading in a room with strong natural light?

Wool dyes used in hand-knotted rugs are stable under normal indoor conditions. Sustained direct sun exposure can gradually shift both the pale field and deeper border tone over years. Rotating the rug annually ensures any color change develops evenly across the surface rather than concentrating in one area. Curtains or UV-filtering glass reduce long-term risk significantly.

Which furniture tones work best alongside this pale blue and slate-teal combination?

Warm walnut, cognac leather, and natural oak all work well against the cool ground, providing temperature contrast that keeps the room from reading as monotone. The terracotta accents within the rug already carry that warmth, so furniture in those tones reinforces rather than competes. Avoid pairing with other strongly patterned textiles at the same scale.

What size suits a large open-plan living room where the rug needs to define a seating zone?

The 10x14 works well for anchoring a full seating group in an open-plan room, keeping the sofa, coffee table, and armchairs clearly within the rug's boundary. The pale field reads as a defined zone even on a light concrete or stone floor. The 9x12 suits a more contained arrangement with a single sofa and two chairs.
