Description

Muted teal-aqua covers both field and border in the same ground tone, removing the usual separation between zones. Vertical cypress-like forms and dense scatter florals in terracotta-red, warm sand, olive green, and deep charcoal populate the field in repeating columns. The border carries the same teal ground with a finer-scaled scrolling vine. Pile reads medium, full and even.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Glaucous · the asked & answered
Does the tone-on-tone teal ground make the pattern harder to read in a large room?

At room scale the columnar structure reads clearly because the vertical forms create strong rhythm across the field. The warm terracotta and sand accents lift specific motifs from the ground without the pattern needing high contrast to register. In larger rooms the 10x14 gives enough surface area for the full column repeat to be visible.

What colors and materials in a room work well alongside this aqua ground?

The muted teal-aqua ground sits comfortably with warm amber, ochre-toned leather, and natural oak. It also reads well against white plaster or concrete. The terracotta accents within the rug pick up warm tones in surrounding furniture without requiring a deliberate match. Avoid pairing with other strong cool-toned rugs or textiles at floor level.

How does a medium pile wool rug perform in a drawing room used for daily seating?

Medium pile provides adequate cushioning for regular use and holds its form well under furniture weight. Wool recovers from compression naturally, so indentations from chair or sofa legs resolve with time or after vacuuming. For heavy furniture, felt pads reduce pile compression at contact points and extend the surface evenly across the room.
