Description

A near-black field carries an all-over repeat of oval cartouche medallions in warm gold and dusty rose, each containing secondary floral fill, connected by a dense botanical vine in gold and muted terracotta. The warm gold border holds a running cartouche repeat on the same dark ground. The close-up reveals a fine, low pile surface with exceptional motif density and sharp individual knot resolution.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Tondo · the asked & answered
How does a low pile handle the level of motif density visible in this design, and does it affect definition over time?

Low pile supports high-density designs well because the shorter fiber length keeps individual motif boundaries precise and prevents neighboring elements from visually merging. Hand-knotted construction means the definition is structural rather than surface-dependent, so it holds through years of regular use without the pattern losing its resolution.

Does the near-black ground with warm gold detailing suit rooms that already have strong wall color or artwork?

This color combination works well in rooms with strong walls or artwork because the near-black ground absorbs rather than competes. The warm gold and dusty rose read as interior warmth without projecting outward. The rug holds its own without demanding that surrounding surfaces step back.

What underlay is recommended for a low-pile wool rug on a hard floor surface?

A felt-and-rubber composite underlay works best for low-pile rugs on hard floors. The rubber base prevents movement and the felt layer adds cushioning, compensating for the lower pile height underfoot. It also prevents the rug's backing from abrading the floor surface over time.
