Description

An ivory field carries an all-over vine scroll bearing large, fully formed rosettes and palmette heads in dark burgundy-brown, dusty teal blue, warm terracotta, and muted sage. The vine runs in dark brown, thin and continuous across the open ground. A near-black border holds a dense ivory cartouche repeat, separated from the field by a pale steel-blue guard stripe.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Burgeon --check · the asked & answered
How does a dark vine on an ivory ground hold its definition over years of regular use?

The dark brown vine is formed from individually knotted wool at full pile depth, so its contrast against the ivory ground does not diminish with surface wear. Hand-knotted construction means each element of the design maintains its boundary independently, and the color difference between vine and field remains consistent through daily use.

Does the near-black border make the rug harder to place in rooms with dark flooring?

Dark borders on ivory-ground rugs actually read well on dark wood floors, as visible in the room setting, because the ivory field provides the contrast against the floor while the border acts as a transition rather than competing with the floor tone. The steel-blue guard stripe further softens the edge between field and border.

What size is recommended for a living room with a single large sofa and flanking armchairs?

A sofa with flanking chairs suits a 9x12 well, with front legs of all pieces resting on the rug. For a room where the sofa faces a large window or fireplace with chairs set back, the 10x14 gives more floor coverage and allows the full botanical repeat to read without the border being obscured by furniture placement.
