Description

A mid-toned teal-blue field carries an all-over vine scroll bearing large, fully opened rosettes in crimson, warm gold, dusty terracotta, and ivory, each flower head rendered with concentric petal rings. The ivory border runs a scrolling botanical repeat in sage and muted rose. The close-up reveals abrash across the teal ground and medium pile with softly resolved edges throughout.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Whorl · the asked & answered
Is the tonal variation across the teal field intentional, and does it affect the rug's quality?

The tonal variation is abrash, a natural characteristic of hand-knotted wool rugs dyed in separate batches. It is intentional in the sense that it results from the traditional production process rather than error, and it does not affect structural quality. Abrash is considered a mark of authentic hand-knotted making.

How does the teal ground read against warm-toned furniture and neutral walls?

Teal grounds hold well against warm upholstery tones, raw wood, and plaster or concrete walls, as the room context shows. The ivory border provides a visual buffer between the field color and the surrounding floor, helping the rug sit within the room rather than competing with it.

What sizes suit a living room with two facing sofas and a central coffee table?

Two facing sofas with a coffee table between them work best on a 9x12 or 10x14, with all front sofa legs resting on the rug. This placement anchors the seating group visually and prevents the rug from appearing to float beneath the furniture.
