Description

A pale powder-blue field runs an all-over vine scroll bearing open rosettes, peony forms, and serrated leaf sprays in dusty rose, crimson, warm gold, and sage green. The deep teal-blue border carries large cartouche medallions in muted rose and ivory, separated by a scrolling ivory guard stripe. The close-up reveals fine, evenly settled pile with abrash visible across the blue ground.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Vervain · the asked & answered
What causes the tonal variation visible across the blue field, and does it continue to develop with use?

The tonal shift across the field is abrash, a natural result of wool being dyed in separate batches at slightly different concentrations. It is present from production and does not change with use. Abrash is a characteristic of hand-knotted wool rugs made with traditional dyeing methods and is not a defect.

What room types and furniture combinations work best with a pale blue ground?

Pale blue grounds work well against warm neutrals, natural wood, leather, and terracotta tones, as visible in the room setting. The 9x12 and 10x14 suit larger living rooms where the full field color reads from the main seating position. The 8x10 works in a drawing room or smaller sitting area.

How does medium-low pile perform on a polished concrete or hard floor surface?

Medium-low pile sits close to the floor and stays flat without buckling on hard surfaces. A non-slip underlay is recommended on polished concrete or stone floors to prevent movement and protect both the rug's backing and the floor finish beneath it.
