Description

An ivory field opens around a crimson star medallion with a warm amber-gold inner surround, its pointed lobes carrying forest green, dusty blue, and near-black leaf forms. Large teal scroll forms and gold fern fronds fill the field between center and border. The deep brick-red border holds a dense rosette repeat in ivory and sage. Medium pile reads firmly even in the close-up.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Saffron · the asked & answered
How does a multi-color design like this hold up to fading or color shift over years of use?

Natural wool takes dye deeply and consistently, so individual colors maintain their distinction over time. Rotating the rug annually prevents any single zone from receiving disproportionate exposure, keeping the full color range balanced across the surface through years of regular use.

Does the ivory field show the scale of the medallion clearly, and what size allows the full composition to read?

The ivory ground gives the medallion and field motifs strong contrast, so the full composition reads clearly at any of the available sizes. The 9x12 suits a living room where the medallion sits within the main seating area. The 10x14 gives the large field scroll forms more room to read before the border.

Can this rug be used in a dining room, and does the pile height suit chair movement?

Medium pile handles regular chair movement well. The hand-knotted construction means the pile anchors firmly at each knot and does not shift or develop track marks under repeated chair contact. A felt pad underneath protects the pile from hard floor surfaces and reduces movement.
