Description

A warm parchment-ivory ground carries the same fine all-over vine lattice, its multi-petalled rosette heads, sunflower forms, and full botanical motifs rendered in brick red, sage green, steel blue, dusty rose, amber gold, and near-black navy across the open field. The near-black navy border closes the perimeter through dense scrolling vine with circular rosette roundels in ivory, sage, and brick red, framed by a narrow powder-blue guard stripe.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Delf · the asked & answered
How does the contrast between an ivory field and a near-black border affect the perceived size of the rug in a room?

A dark border on a pale field draws the eye to the rug's perimeter, which defines its dimensions clearly. The rug reads as precisely sized rather than expansive. In a room with pale walls and floors, this definition helps the rug anchor the seating arrangement without bleeding visually into the surrounding surface. In a room with dark floors, the border integrates with the floor tone and the pale field becomes the dominant element.

The vine lattice is fine and detailed. Is this rug suited to a room with children or pets?

Hand-knotted wool of this construction density handles regular household use well. The fine detail of the vine lattice does not affect structural durability; the knot foundation is consistent throughout. With regular vacuuming and prompt spill management, the rug maintains its surface quality in active rooms. A rug pad underneath helps prevent movement on hard floors.

Does the powder-blue guard stripe between field and border serve a practical function or is it purely visual?

Guard stripes are a structural convention in traditional rug construction that mark the transition zone between field and border. Visually, the powder-blue stripe here introduces a cooler tone that separates the ivory field from the near-black border, preventing the two from meeting abruptly. Structurally, it is woven as part of the same hand-knotted construction and requires no special care.
