Description

A deep brick-red ground carries a large-scale open vine scroll, its wide branching stems and bold oak-leaf forms drawn in warm ivory and amber gold, with sage green and teal blue florals distributed at the vine's junctions. The motifs are larger and more sparsely placed than the denser scroll products in the collection. A wide ivory border closes the field through continuous scrolling vine and floral work.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Sorrel · the asked & answered
Does a large-scale vine scroll pattern require a minimum room size to read correctly?

Large-scale motifs benefit from being seen at a distance of at least two to three meters for the full branching structure to read as a connected system. In a 9x12 or 10x14, the pattern has enough room to complete at least two full vine cycles across the field. Smaller sizes compress the repeat and the design loses its open quality.

How does the ivory border interact with the brick-red field in a room with dark wood flooring?

The ivory border creates a clear perimeter against dark floors, lifting the rug visually from the surface beneath it. The brick-red field carries enough warmth to sit alongside dark oak or walnut without losing definition. In the lifestyle image, this combination reads well against dark wood flooring with warm-toned furniture.

Is this rug appropriate for a dining room where chairs are moved regularly?

The hand-knotted wool construction handles regular furniture movement well. For a dining room, size so that all chair legs remain on the rug when pulled out from the table. The open scroll format means wear from chair legs distributes across the vine and ground rather than concentrating on a dense motif area, which helps the surface maintain its appearance over time.
