Description

Pale parchment ivory covers both field and border, removing the contrast that typically separates those two zones. Scrolling vines carry dusty steel-blue, olive green, warm brown, and deep charcoal florals across the surface. The border holds the same ground tone, distinguished only by its own dense leafwork. Pile reads medium-low, close and even.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Furrow · the asked & answered
Does the tone-on-tone palette show dirt or wear more quickly than a contrasting design?

Pale grounds do show surface dust more readily than darker ones, which makes regular vacuuming on low suction important. Wool's natural lanolin resists soiling to a degree, and rotating the rug annually distributes foot traffic evenly so no single area dulls faster than the rest.

Which room proportions suit this rug best, and how should furniture sit on it?

The 9x12 and 10x14 sizes work well in open-plan living rooms where the rug anchors a full seating group. In a more contained drawing room, the 8x10 suits a sofa with two chairs, front legs resting on the rug. The tone-on-tone ground reads well in both large and mid-scale rooms.

Will the pale ivory ground yellow or shift color over time with regular use?

Wool does not yellow the way synthetic fibers can. With normal use, the ivory ground will settle and gain slight variation in tone, which is characteristic of hand-knotted wool. Professional cleaning every one to two years keeps the surface from accumulating embedded grime that could alter the ground color.
