Description

A powder-blue ground holds a large stepped medallion at center, its layered star form built from brick red, deep navy, and warm amber-copper in concentric angular rings. Four amber-copper corner quadrants fill the field around the medallion with geometric motifs and directional leaf forms. A medium blue border closes the perimeter with dense scrolling vine work.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Hearth · the asked & answered
How does a central medallion design work in a room where furniture placement is not centered?

Medallion designs read well even when furniture does not align symmetrically with the center point. The medallion anchors the visual field of the rug rather than dictating furniture arrangement. A 9x12 or 10x14 allows the full medallion to remain visible regardless of where the sofa or seating group sits relative to the rug's center.

The amber-copper corner sections and powder-blue field are very different in tone. Does the contrast look balanced in person?

The brick-red medallion perimeter acts as a transitional element between the warm copper corners and the cool blue field, moderating the contrast between the two zones. In person, the three-color relationship reads as structured rather than jarring, with each zone holding its own area of the composition clearly.

Is this rug suitable for a dining room given its medallion format?

A medallion rug works in a dining room when sized so the table sits fully centered over the medallion, with chair legs remaining on the rug when pulled out. A 9x12 accommodates a six-seat table. The 10x14 suits an eight-seat arrangement and keeps the corner quadrants fully visible beyond the table perimeter.
