Description

A saturated brick-red ground carries the all-over geometric lattice in ivory outlines, its interlocking compartments seeded with florets in sage green, steel blue, amber gold, and dusty coral. The red field absorbs the geometry without softening it. A deep near-black navy border closes the perimeter with dense scrolling vine and roundel work in amber and powder blue.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Brazier · the asked & answered
How does the deep red wool hold up against fading over time?

Red wool dyed with quality colorfast pigments holds well under normal indoor use. Extended exposure to direct sun causes gradual fading in any dyed fiber. Rotating the rug every twelve months prevents uneven color shift from directional light, and closing curtains during peak sun hours extends color longevity.

This rug has strong color. How do I size it correctly for a living room?

A 9x12 or 10x14 works well for a full living room layout with front furniture legs resting on the rug. In rooms with pale or neutral walls, the field reads as a grounding element rather than an overpowering one. The 8x10 suits defined seating areas in smaller rooms.

Does wool pile in this density require any special break-in period?

New hand-knotted wool rugs of this pile density shed loose surface fibers for the first four to eight weeks. Vacuum weekly on low suction without a beater bar during this period. Shedding reduces naturally. The pile settles and compresses slightly with use, which improves surface definition over time.
