Description

A fern-green ground carries the same all-over geometric lattice in ivory outlines, its interlocking compartments filled with florets in brick red, teal blue, dusty coral, and warm tan. The green field shifts tonally from section to section, giving the surface a natural unevenness. A terracotta-red border closes the field with scrolling vine and roundel work.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Verdant · the asked & answered
Does the tonal variation in the green ground indicate inconsistency in the wool dyeing?

The tonal shift across the field is a natural characteristic of hand-knotted wool construction. Wool absorbs dye at slightly varying rates depending on fiber density and twist. This variation, called abrash, is inherent to the process and is considered a mark of hand craftsmanship.

What furniture colors and materials work best alongside this rug?

Natural wood tones, linen, and undyed textiles complement the fern green and terracotta palette without competing. The rug reads well under both warm and cool-toned furniture. Avoid pairing with very saturated accent colors, as the field already carries significant chromatic density.

How should I care for this rug in a high-traffic living room?

Vacuum weekly on low suction without a beater bar. Rotate the rug every twelve months to distribute foot traffic evenly across the pile. Blot any spills immediately with a clean dry cloth. Professional cleaning once a year keeps the wool fiber and dye in good condition.
