Description

Silver-white grounds a borderless scattered field where warm sand, dusty terracotta, steel blue, and olive green botanical motifs distribute independently across the surface at very fine scale. Each form is small enough that the ground reads as the dominant visual element; the motifs surface within it rather than sitting on top of it. The close-up pile shows a finely grained low wool with a soft hand, motifs merging into the pale ground at their edges.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Ghyll · the asked & answered
How practical is a silver-white ground wool rug in a living room that sees daily use?

Wool's natural lanolin content provides some resistance to soiling, but a pale ground requires consistent maintenance. Vacuuming on low suction weekly removes surface debris before it settles into the pile. Blotting spills immediately without rubbing prevents absorption. Annual professional cleaning maintains the ground tone over time. The low pile does not trap debris deeply, which makes routine upkeep straightforward.

Does a very fine-scale scattered pattern hold visual interest in a large open-plan space?

Fine-scale scattered patterns read as textured neutrals from across a large room and reward closer observation with their internal detail. In open-plan spaces, the rug functions as a quiet anchor for the seating zone rather than a visual focal point. Choosing an appropriate size — 9x12 or 10x14 — ensures the rug's proportions hold the arrangement without becoming understated to the point of invisibility.

How does a borderless pale rug on a blonde wood floor establish a clear zone boundary?

On blonde or pale wood floors, a silver-white ground provides minimal contrast at the edge, which softens the transition between floor and rug. A correctly sized rug allows the furniture placement itself to define the zone. For a cleaner boundary, a thin rug pad in a contrasting color underneath can help visually separate the rug's edge from the surrounding floor.
