Description

A warm off-white and pale natural ground carries large, irregular polygonal forms divided by thin dark charcoal lines incised into the pile. The forms vary in shape and size across the field, suggesting flagstone or fractured planes rather than a geometric repeat. The high pile fills each form with a deep, dense texture that reads as uniformly pale from a distance and reveals slight tonal variation between adjacent forms up close.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Slab · the asked & answered
Does a pale off-white high-pile rug show soiling and foot marks easily?

A pale high-pile surface will show footprints and directional pile marks more readily than a dark or low-pile rug. These are not permanent; they settle as the pile recovers. For soiling, blot spills immediately before they penetrate the dense pile. Regular low-suction vacuuming keeps the off-white ground reading cleanly. Professional cleaning once a year addresses deeper discolouration before it becomes embedded.

How do the incised charcoal lines hold up under regular foot traffic?

The charcoal channels are compressed into the pile rather than printed on the surface, so they remain defined as long as the pile structure is maintained. Heavy traffic directly over the channel lines can cause the surrounding high pile to lean into them, softening their edges over time. Vacuuming against the pile direction occasionally helps keep the channel walls upright and the line definition sharp.

What size and placement works best on dark polished concrete floors?

The contrast between the pale off-white field and a dark concrete floor is strong, so the rug edges read clearly without additional visual framing. The 10x14 suits a large living room and allows the full irregular plane structure to be seen from a standing position. Front legs of seating on the rug anchors the arrangement. For a more contained space, the 9x12 maintains the same clarity of contrast on dark flooring.
