Description

Mid-grey and pale silver hold the ground while off-white dashes and right-angled broken lines run in rotating quadrant formations across the full field. The same mark structure as the darker colourway, but the reduced contrast between ground and mark gives this surface a quieter tonal register. The blended fibres carry the grey in a range of silver and slate values, so the field reads as varied rather than uniform.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Signal · the asked & answered
How does the lower contrast of this grey colourway affect the pattern's legibility over time as the pile wears?

Because the mark and ground sit close in tone, the pattern relies on pile condition rather than colour contrast to read clearly. Regular low-suction vacuuming keeps the pile upright and the off-white channels open. A well-maintained medium-height blended pile holds the mark definition reliably. Annual rotation prevents any single quadrant from compressing more than the others, which would make the tonal difference between mark and ground harder to read.

Does this rug work in a room that already has strong grey tones in walls or furniture?

The mid-grey marled ground reads as a participating material rather than a competing one in a grey-dominant room. The silver and slate variation in the blended fibres gives the surface enough tonal movement to avoid reading as flat against grey surroundings. The off-white marks provide the primary contrast, keeping the floor readable within a monochromatic interior scheme.

What placement works best for two accent chairs without a primary sofa on the rug?

Two accent chairs work well on the 8x10 or 9x12, positioned so both front legs rest on the rug with a low coffee table or side table between them. The four-quadrant rotation is symmetrical, so the rug reads equally well with chairs placed on any two sides. Keeping both chairs on the rug visually connects them to the floor surface and to each other.
