Description

Fine off-white horizontal lines run continuously across a mid-grey and dark charcoal blended ground, interrupted by irregular charcoal patches that surface at unpredictable intervals. The patches do not repeat. They vary in size and density, so the striated ground reads as a field with weather moving through it rather than a pattern over it. No border marks the edges.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Riffle --check · the asked & answered
The off-white horizontal lines run continuously across a dark ground. Does this create a strong directional effect in the room?

The lines run parallel to the long axis of the rug, so they do create a horizontal pull across the field. Positioned with the long axis running away from the primary seating, the lines draw the eye into the room. Rotated 90 degrees, they read across the width of the seating arrangement. Either orientation works; the choice depends on the room's proportions.

The charcoal patches are irregular. Does this read as inconsistency or as intentional design?

The irregularity is the design. The patches have no repeat and no system, which distinguishes this surface from a conventional patterned rug. In rooms with other deliberately imperfect or handmade materials, stone, timber, aged plaster, the surface reads as belonging to the same material logic. In rooms expecting uniformity, the variation may feel unresolved.

How does a blended fibre construction with fine horizontal lines hold up under regular foot traffic?

The fine off-white lines are built into the pile construction rather than applied on top of it, so they do not abrade independently from the surrounding ground. Moderate foot traffic distributes across the full surface. Regular low-suction vacuuming in the direction of the pile and rotation every 12 months keeps the horizontal structure reading evenly over time.
