Description

Concentric rectangular lines score the surface of a pale silver-grey and warm putty blended ground, stepping inward from the field edges toward a quiet center. No color distinction separates the lines from the ground; the design exists entirely in relief. The close-up reveals the lines as shallow carved channels in the pile, with the blended fibre ground shifting between cool grey and faintly warm stone at different pile depths.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

On scale

Bring the room into the rug - never the other way around.

A rug is sized to read once, in full, as you walk past it. The longer sizes tell a different story across a whole room.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Recess --check · the asked & answered
The design relies entirely on carved pile relief. Does foot traffic flatten the channels over time?

The carved channels in a hand-knotted blended fibre pile do compress gradually under sustained foot traffic. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes wear and prevents any single channel from flattening while others remain crisp. Low-suction vacuuming in the direction of the pile also helps maintain the relief structure between rotations.

This design has no color contrast. How does it hold its presence in a large, open room?

The concentric rectangle structure reads clearly from above when seen from a standing or seated position across an open floor. In a room of generous scale, the 10x14 gives the stepping pattern enough field to register as a spatial gesture rather than a surface texture. The design performs best where the floor is fully visible and not obscured by furniture at the center.

The product code references coffee. Does the rug carry a warmer tone than the images suggest?

The blended fibre ground carries both pale silver-grey and warm putty tones simultaneously, and the balance between them shifts with viewing angle and pile depth. In warmer artificial light the putty reads more prominently; in cooler daylight the silver-grey comes forward. The overall impression is a warm neutral rather than a pure cool grey.
