Description

Soft celadon-teal wool carries a formal arched medallion at center, its structure drawn in warm ivory-cream and punctuated by thin lines of dusty rose-brown. The ground tone holds an abrash-like variation, lighter at the medallion interior and deeper at the field edges, giving the surface a tonal range that the single colorway reading doesn't suggest from a distance.

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Gloam · the asked & answered
Will the celadon-teal ground color shift or fade under regular residential use and natural light?

Hand-knotted wool holds dye at the fiber level and resists fading under normal residential conditions. Sustained direct sun exposure can gradually shift cool blue-green tones. Rotating the rug every 12 months distributes any directional light exposure evenly and extends the life of the ground color.

What furniture and room types suit this rug best at the 9x12 and 10x14 sizes?

The formal centered medallion works well in living rooms with a sofa and two accent chairs arranged symmetrically around the rug. The cool celadon-teal ground suits rooms with white or plaster walls, natural timber furniture, and linen upholstery. At 10x14, all furniture legs can sit fully on the surface.

Does the tonal variation in the ground indicate uneven dyeing, and will it become more pronounced over time?

The tonal variation is an inherent characteristic of hand-knotted wool construction. Natural fiber absorbs dye unevenly across a large surface, producing subtle ground shifts that are intentional and expected. This variation does not worsen with use and does not indicate a quality issue. It is part of what distinguishes hand-knotted from machine-made production.
