Description

A steel blue ground shifts into warm grey and off-white through horizontal banding that carries no hard edge, the transition built entirely through the density of knotting across each row. Small diamond forms surface faintly across the upper field, dissolving before completing. Up close, the pile reveals ocean blue, taupe, and cool white fibres working together across the matte wool surface. Made in India

A note on the dye

Madder root, soaked five days, simmered three.

The red you see in the field is not one red. It is seven dye lots, each pulled at a slightly different hour from the same copper vat,the variation lives only in the wool, never in the recipe.

Asked & answered

Questions you'd want to ask.

Plain answers about the wool, the loom, and what the rug does over years of use.

Tide · the asked & answered
How does the directional shift in this rug's design hold up as the pile wears over time?

The tonal shift is built into the dye of the wool itself, not applied to the surface. As the pile compresses evenly with use, the transition between steel blue and grey-white remains intact. Rotating the rug every 12 months prevents uneven wear from concentrating in one zone.

What room orientation works best for this rug's horizontal banding?

This rug reads strongest when the banding runs parallel to the room's dominant axis. In a long living room or open-plan space, orient the rug so the blue-to-grey shift runs front to back from the main seating position. An 8x10 or 9x12 suits most living and drawing room arrangements.

Does an all-wool matte rug require different care than a wool-silk blend?

All-wool construction is more forgiving than silk blends under regular use. Vacuum on low suction without a beater bar. Avoid steam cleaning, which can cause wool fibres to felt. For spills, blot immediately with a clean dry cloth and allow the area to air dry fully before placing furniture back on the surface.
